Shave ice, briefly
Hawaii's shave ice is shaved, not crushed: a block of ice planed into fine, soft flakes that soak up flavored syrup instead of letting it pool at the bottom. Stands pile it in a cone or cup, and many add ice cream, azuki beans, mochi or li hing mui powder.
Where they are: two on Oʻahu, two on Kauaʻi and one on Hawaiʻi Island.
