Square, with the edge

Detroit-style pizza is baked in a rectangular blue-steel pan, the kind once used for auto parts, with brick cheese spread right to the sides so it melts into a crisp, caramelized frame. The sauce goes on last, in stripes over the top. The style traces to Buddy's Rendezvous on Detroit's east side in 1946.

The list at a glance

Towns with the most: Detroit (4), Eastpointe (1), Hazel Park (1).

Our method: a place made the list only if a 2025 or 2026 source backed it up (a dated local news story, an official tourism listing or the place's own site) and its street address matched our records. Where the source page carries no date, the place also had to hold an active food-service license on the state's list, or a 2025–26 Detroit inspection. Review sites played no part, and places run by region and town rather than by anybody's score. Hours change, so check before you go.

On your phone, Michigan Eats orders this list by how far each place is from you, and a tap opens Apple Maps' live card with hours, photos and directions.
