A Detroit coney is a beef-and-pork hot dog with a natural casing, in a steamed bun, under a ladle of beanless chili, a line of yellow mustard and chopped white onions. Greek and Macedonian immigrants opened the first coney islands in the early 1900s, and downtown Detroit's two side-by-side rivals on Lafayette Boulevard still argue over whose is better. Flint's coney comes with a drier, finely ground meat sauce instead.
